1993 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE review from North America
"Extremely satisfied with a reliable van"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First 3 years under warranty - front struts leaked and front wiper motor.
Paint - Teal (blue) pealed on roof, hood and front fenders. Repainted with exact match on a 50/50 basis the day before 7 years up.
Rear wiper motor replaced. Motor was good, but the nylon gear worn at one point. When the wiper arm points to the sky on these vans, the gear has been stripped.
Lately, there have been some transmission shifting concerns to keep an eye on, e.g. revving to 3500 but moving in the 25 to 50 mph range and not falling back to 1700 - 1800 revs as it should. Most days works normal and the odd day it is erratic.
Just replaced starter at 110,000 Km (70,000 miles), $50 Can used.
General comments?
Good to excellent - It's a great vacation vehicle, quad seats and lots of room.
Great in winter plus a rear heater which was mandatory for me. It gets cold in Canada with the igloos and all.
No concerns with starting on cold days.
Excellent vehicle to drive, smooth, great visibility, reasonable gas mileage at 28 MPG with cruise at 100 -105 KPH.
If all cars were made this way, the manufacturers would only need to produce half as many.
I expect to keep this one at least 10 more years, just broken in.
I do my own oil/antifreeze changes and brakes (one set front & rear).
Original exhaust system which must be stainless steel. (That's a $200 saving every 2-3 years)
Quick steering and handling for a large vehicle.
In 1993, deliberately bought Plymouth over Dodge as the production plant had a quality control reputation superior to the Dodge plant.
I would recommend the 1993 year to anyone.
