2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP review from North America
"The GTP is a perfect marriage between performance and functionality"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have not had this car long enough for anything to have gone wrong.
General comments?
After having an Explorer previously I wanted to ensure that I would have both the room of the truck, but with a lot more performance. Research pointed me in the direction of the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.
For whatever reason where I live drivers have this annoying habit of pulling up in the right lane at stop lights then trying to blow past you to get ahead before hitting the parked cars in front of them once the light turns green. Since purchase I have not had to allow anyone to pass me. The more notable vehicles that have tried and failed are an Acura 3.2CL Type S, Honda Accord EX V6, Nissan Altima 3.5S, and a Chevrolet Camaro V6.
General performance points:
- corning is good for a big, heavy car, but the weight does result in a fair amount of roll at higher speeds
- off the line the 280 lb/ft of torque really spins the tires if you aren't careful
- accelertion at speed, 100 km/h (or 60 mph if you are American), is very impressive for a V6.
