1983 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brogham review from North America
"A big mean traveling machine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The only things that are wrong with this car are things that go with age. The vinyl top is all scratched up because of cats sharping there claws on it. The inside head liner is also coming down. The rubber seams in the doors are also going bad and don't seal like they should.
The clock in the dash did not work before I got it. The lights in the speed gage to not come on half the time, but the light in the gas gage always works so you can always see how fast you are going.
The outside body also has rust spots all over it mostly on the finder skirts and on the back bumper.
I only had to put one heater core in it after the first one rusted through and I has only needed the AC charged once. The motor and transmission are the ones installed at the factory and are still going strong.
General comments?
Despite the condition that it is in I wouldn't trade it up for anything. The first owner was a old guy that I don't remember his name as my mom bought it from him in 1990 and she drove it till I turned 16 and then she got a newer Olds and I got this one. I have made some changes to it when I got it since it looked like a old boat when I first got it.
I have since put in a radar detector and a 3 way power outlet strip under the dash to make five outlets for all my stuff. I have also put in a new clock. I have also put on a glass pack on the exhaust and now it sounds deep. Ready to race anybody that comes along. Even though it is a big old car it still has the power to pass people on the road like they are sitting still and the big motor makes sure I get up to speed quickly.
The inside is in good condition except for the top its just like going for a ride in your living room. The radio still sounds good and the speakers still shake the car when turned up and makes the mirrors rattle. This car has only been in one crash and the only thing that happened to it is the headlight trim got smashed. I found another at a junk yard and now it is all there.
A great car for everyone.
