1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS/GS review from North America
"Nice toy if thousands of dollars of upgrades are invested into it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
All problems that are listed here were replaced beacuse they were 'starting to go.' My car is heavily modified so I cannot say if these problems would have occured if I had not added aftermarket parts. But, here is the list of things I have replaced.
1. Head gasket (75,000 miles)
2. Water pump (75,000 miles)
3. Power steering belt snaps every 5000 miles, probably because of the increased hp.
4. Both clips that hold the visors up broke off. New clips cost $2.50.
5. Windows rattle.
General comments?
This car is not fast when you get it. You need to make it fast.
There are lots and lots and lots of aftermarket parts for this car.
It corners OK, but not as good as a Nissan 240sx.
After $3000 of engine modifications this car finally can keep up with / pass a Mustang GT or a stock Turbo eclipse without any problems.
The body kit I have is cool looking. There are a lot of body kits for this car and each one will get looks.
People think my car has 600 hp+. If they only knew.
Girls like my car. Guys like it more.
Get ready to replace your headgasket at 75,000 miles. The dodge headgasket is not very good. Mitsubishi will get you a better head gasket, but it will cost you.
If you are looking to buy an Eclipse DO NOT by the spyder. They are nothing, but problems.
4x4's in Wisconsin will always race you at stop lights... Make sure you are not racing a V8 unless lots has been done to your engine. In Seattle Porshes will always race you... They are worse than 4x4s in Wisconsin.
This car is faster stock than most modified hondas.
Best part of this car is the attention you get after modifying it.
