1986 Volkswagen GTI review from North America
"A fast car that lasts and lasts!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The intermediate shaft that turns the distributor sprung a huge leak. It was replaced at the dealership and has been leak free ever since.
The valve cover leaks a little not matter how new it is and how many times it's replaced, so I applied silicone sealant and that has finally cured it.
General comments?
A very quick and reliable car. It's still fast or faster than when I first purchased it.
The mileage is excellent at over 36 mpg on the highway and over 30 in town.
It handles as well as any newer car and the tires don't seem to mind as the tires last and last.
Great sport seats, but they've worn in spots, but you can drive for hours and never get tired.
