2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP review from North America

The A/C drain clogged, causing water to overflow onto the carpet.

I have been impressed by this car's reliability. I have nearly 50,000 miles and not one mechanical problem. The only time it was in the shop was to have the a/c drain unclogged. I don't know why GM doesn't use a larger drain to prevent this common problem. The performance is good, but they should have put in a 300 HP engine like the prototype. That would get this car to perform a lot more like my old '67 GTO in a straight line. My past car was a 1988 Grand Prix SE, which my son now drives. That car had more than it's share of mechanical problems while still under warranty, but not too many after it aged a little. It has about 170,000 miles and was in a wreck last year and still runs like a top. Pontiac should have taken a look back at the '88 when designing the newer models. Although the 2000 is superior in performance and reliability, the ride comfort, comfort of the seats (the leather seats are too stiff for long rides), the controls design and placement, the instrumentation design and placement and performance of the headlights are all much better on the '88. I do like the 2000 and think the body and interior are much better looking than the 2004 Grand Prix.
