1998 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 CitiGolf review from South Africa
What things have gone wrong with the car?
HT lead governer caps.
General comments?
Continued manufacture of the MkI Golf, known here as CitiGolf, is unique to South Africa. This is my third one, as they are so reliable, robust and cheap to run. My first one ran to 260000km before I traded it in, and went to all corners of this country on some horrendous roads. The now old-fashioned carburettor fed rorty exhaust note and excellent handling feedback maintain the fun driving experience.
