2001 Cadillac DeVille review from North America
"Great"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing so far. Maybe tires needed. Michelins should be the only choice used.
General comments?
Trying to offer some info on the tire vibration issue. On the Caddys, Michelins should be the one and only choice. As for my used 01, it also had some of the vibration at 65-70. It has Michelins on it, but they will have to be replaced by fall.
The current Michelins have been rebalanced. They are at about 1/3 useful life left.
As for vibrations of tires. Several issues pop up. One is the balancing equipment. This equipment is designed to be calibrated every day. It's rare that you can find a shop that actually does this. There happens to be one shop in Nashville I have found that actually does this. Its very rare to find a shop that actually calibrates the machine... If they never calibrate, the result is they can never really balance a tire.
Installing new tires. Tires can be very easily damaged during install. What... they're paying these guys what, 6-7 dollars per hour? If a tire bead is overstreched it will never ride right. The damage will be invisible.
Michelin X ones are a stiffer tire. They certainly transmit more road feel into the car. But... great tires... they last forever with minimal fuss.
Northstars and oil consumption. These cars are not being driven hard enough. A Northstar engineer has suggested that the car should be basically floored at 75mph. Hard. I have done this myself a dozen times and 70% of the vibration issue has gone away. I think what you might be feeling is drivetrain 'chuggle', rather then a tire issue. Whats up? Maybe it gets the flow of the injectors up and going again whatever. I myself typically drive like there is an egg under the pedal. Long life drivetrain right? I guess on the newer engine you have to clear them out.
Anyways some suggestions... more info is available at a couple of Cadillac websites -

Good luck
Logan.
