2001 Renault Laguna Dynamique review from UK and Ireland
"Over-engineered pile of junk"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I am extremely glad that my company leases this car for me. If I had owned the car I think I would have suffered some serious stress on top of the massive inconvenience I have suffered.
In the space of 2 years I've had to have the following work carried out under warranty:
Reprogramming of fuel injection system.
The car went through a phase of switching to a "get home" mode and displaying the electronic system warning light. Until it was reprogrammed I had to stop the car remove the key card, replace it and then restart the car. This only started happening after the dealer had serviced the car.
New power steering hydraulics @ 20k miles.
New clutch @ 25k miles.
New fuel injection hydraulics @ 27k miles (diesel was leaking onto the exhaust manifold). The dealer had failed to spot this on 3 occasions. Each time I took it in complaining that I could smell diesel. They were only able to find on the last occasion as the car was belting out huge plumes of blue smoke.
New dashboard display @ 27k miles. The dealer refused to set odometer to correct car mileage.
I'm still not quite sure why it needed to be replaced; the dealer did it at the same time as replacing the fuel injection piping. I was so fed up with the dealer and the car at this point that I did not have the energy to find out why.
I've experienced continuous problems with the tyre pressure sensor system. It has had to be reset countless times. On top of that the valves on the tyres are so complex that they result in slight loss of pressure around the many internal seals they have, hence the warning lights have been almost continuously lit for the last 2 years.
Driver's seat squeaks.
Driver side electric window is faulty.
I've had very poor service from the dealer (Renault Leeds).
General comments?
After the experiences I've had with this car I don't want to drive another Renault again.
I'm currently considering switching from a company car to a private one, just to get rid of it.
