1998 Toyota Landcruiser Prado / Colorado review from United Arab Emirates
"In conclusion this car was fun and reliable and tough and a delight off road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The only thing went wrong was the AC and that was not working well before I purchased the vehicle. That was cheap to fix $150.
Apart from that the car was absolutely reliable.
Starts every time and it keeps going forever.
General comments?
I never thought that my Toyota was amazing or any different to any other 4x4, because this was my first 4x4.
When I sold my car last month and started looking for other 4x4's I realized what a big mistake it was to sell it, I tell you why?
As I mentioned this car never let me down.
I have a young family and it was really important that the car is reliable in such a hot country, the summer temperatures reached +50C that is hot, most cars over heat, but the Prado never even reaches half the mark on the heat indicator and that is amazing.
I go off road a lot and again I thought all 4x4's are the same, but I was so wrong.
My prado never got stuck I use to go fully loaded to the desert near Dubai UAE and the sand there is like powder and the Prado had no problems it was like a dream on the sand.
I miss my 4x4 every day especially when I see and drive my friends 4x4's like ford explorer and Rang rovers getting stuck in places I never ever considered serious off road like the beach.
On the road the only thing I wasn't happy with is the amount the car leans in corners, but that doesn't mean I was driving slow. I pushed that car to the max in every corner and in the straights never had a problem loosing control. But do it sensibly its not a sports car, but it can keep up with most salons.
The acceleration was good, from start until about 140 km it was lively for a big car. I have a habit of testing my car on regular bases. Testing I mean speed handling breaking and off road.
0 to 100 km every time in 11 seconds top speed was 190km.
This is good in comparison with my friends ford explorer 2003 4.0 V6 I test his car and I was shocked: 0 to 100 km 15 sec and this is a car with 220 bhp and the Prado had 180 bhp.
