1999 Ford Explorer LXS review from North America
"Very reliable after 65K and 4+ years"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear window wiper faulty.
A few areas of the interior are prone to wear.
General comments?
After 65K, this Explorer has proven to be extremely reliable. During our 4 1/2 years of ownership, we have experienced no mechanical problems with this vehicle with the notable exception of the rear window wiper which was repaired under warranty several years ago.
It has proven so reliable that it has never been to the dealer with the exception of the aforementioned problem and a few "I want to take care of a few things before the warranty runs out" problems. All of these were cosmetic in nature and in all honesty were not as a result of manufacturing defects.
Ford's warranty during the first 3 years/36K miles is extremely comprehensive and the dealership was extremely accommodating.
My only gripe? I wish it got a little better gas mileage!
