2002 Renault Laguna Privilege review from UK and Ireland

"Great design and performance spoilt by fault catalogue"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Interior light poorly fitted.

Rear roof lining falling down.

Strange gear selections from automatic gear box including not changing into 5th on the odd occasion and heavy down shifts.

Cruise control automatically disengaging.

Temperature gauge reading too low.

General comments?

The car is full of features, most not gimmicky, but of genuine use.

The car returns good fuel consumption figures for a 210 brake horse power 3 litre V6, I've had 40 to the gallon at 70 miles per hour.

The car has started to disapoint with the catalogue of niggling faults.

Dealer can't fault the gearbox or the cruise control and says that operation is normal.

My 1994 Toyota Camry 3.0 V6 had a much smoother gearbox and gear changes were nearly un-noticed, maybe I am expecting too much of the lower class Laguna II, but not always changing into 5th is definitely a fault.

I have noticed that trim is not covered in the year 2 and 3 warranty so my roof lining problems will soon not be the problem of Renault UK it seems.

It's a shame that the faults are changing my opinion of the car because it looks good and is well designed.

It does seem that all the reports of a better put together Laguna II from the model it replaces may not be justified.
