1999 Proton Wira XLi Aeroback review from Malaysia
"Shoddy work. Con job."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The first two months, the reverse sensors and the electronic mirror adjuster conked out.
The first year, the clutch, the air-conditioning failed and the engine dies suddenly at traffic junctions/while idling.
The second year, the passenger front automatic window failed.
The third year, the right front signal lamp just decided to pop out.
The engine is showing signs of dying at idling again.
General comments?
After nearly 20 years, Proton has yet to improve its reliability and quality control.
The only reason many Malaysians buy Protons is because it's the cheapest around.
And the only reason it's the cheapest around is because the government protects it with high taxes on imported (and better) cars.
