1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye review from UK and Ireland
"The Drive of your life!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Absolutely nothing, believe it or not.
General comments?
I have read much about the rallye and can honestly say it is every bit as good as you've heard.
The agility and turn in of the 106 is astonishing, the steering is so quick the well known lift off oversteer is easily controlled and you'll have a grin from ear to ear! The engine too, 1.6 8v, is outstanding. I have driven the 106 gti and despite having 20 bhp more it is not even close to the rallye in-gear due to the mass of torque available from around 3500 rpm.
Last, but not least, having owned 2 peugeot's (205/306 gti) before and kept coming back for more I had learned to live with the dreadful electrics and general build quality. However, fingers crossed, this rallye seems to have made it out of the factory as the designers intended.
