1992 Acura Integra GS-R review from North America

"Ahead of its time in 1992. Still desirable today for somebody on a budget"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Common to all 1992-1993 GS-R's, the third gear synchro went causing third gear to grind at the 8,000 RPM redline.

The clutch failed causing a rattling sound after repeated abuse and extremely hard driving.

A few rattles here and there.

Other than that the car even with 160,000 kilometers on it remained almost perfect. No problems with the CV joints, brakes or suspension. Good job Acura!

General comments?

Other than the third gear synchro problem the car remained flawless. Without a doubt, had the car not needed repairs to the synchro I would probably still be driving it today.

The interior of the car remained in new condion. Fabrics and materials used are of top quality and had almost no signs of wearing, even the stock floormats remained in like new condition. Compared to a friend's 1992 240 SX, the materials in the 240 seem cheap and showed signs of wearing much more quickly.

The DOHC VTEC 1.7 160 horsepower powerplant benefits from a proper cold air intake such as the AEM unit. Power after 5,000 RPM is aggressive to and past the 8,000 RPM redline although VTEC comes on rather late at 5,700 RPM compared to later GS-R models. Handling is firm and relatively composed with good brakes.

All in all, for somebody who doesn't want to spend a bunch of cash, but wants 90% of the features found in a new SiR (Si in the US) an older GS-R may be the ticket.
