1993 Honda Prelude Si review from North America

"Nice performance and high reliability at a reasonable price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The clock hours counts up constantly while the car is running.

Intake valve developed a leak at 34,000 miles. New valve was installed for $150.

The steering wheel cover started to wear off at 45,000 miles.

The Air conditioner developed a leak at 50,000 miles. The cooling coils were patched and filled quite easily, costing $250.

The paint on the front of the side mirrors began to fade and disappear starting at 60,000 miles. Paint job for both mirrors ran $150.

The rear window defroster stopped working sometime after 70,000 miles. It has never been replaced.

The master and slave clutch cylinder both needed replacing at 92,000 miles. This is a common problem on Hondas from what I was told by the mechanic. Cost to replace both on two separate occasions were about $450.

General comments?

This car has been wonderful to me for the last 8+ years.

Besides getting anywhere from 25 - 31 mpg, its nicely sized 2.3L I-4 produces a punchy 160 hp. While I will never compare a higher end sports car, it has always given me plenty of get up when I have needed it.

The car handles and steers nicely though turn and I have enjoy taking it for drives thought the mountainous tight turn when I have had the chance.

From a looks stand point, the car has stylish body flow and with the optional spoiler (which my prelude has) makes it look even better.

The reliability of the car is what really impresses so much about it. The car would be no fun to drive if it was always at the mechanic, but other than a few inexpensive fixes on the car it has performed exceptional from a reliability standpoint. I have never had to worry about not being able to drive it or worry about it leaving me stranded somewhere without a ride.

I would however recommend to someone interested in a prelude, to get one with the VTEC engine b/c the 30 extra horse make a considerable difference to its get up and go.
