1989 Ford Sierra GLS 4x4 review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Discs replaced at 50k.
Recurring problem with clutch cable, due to repeated poor fitting by 3 different places. Its been fine since *I* refitted it!
I've just blown the engine :-( but that's life (it'd only done 70k - low for an 89). Big end gone, loss of oil pressure, tappets/rockers on one side of V gone. I think engine failure was brought on by induction of water when I drove though a flood the prevoius day.]
But engine was FINE until that point - so I have no complaints.
General comments?
Great value for money. Seems that 4x4 was on option on the normally 2.0l GLS. But if you specced 4x4 you got the 2.9 V6 XR engine :-) The engine is not terribly refined - but has LOADS of low-end torque. Dunno if this is due to the capacity, or 'V'. Interior and exterior same as normal GLS, so kind of an XR-wolf in GLS-sheep's clothing.
Can't fault the performance for the money. Having experienced 4x4, I'd never go back to 2 wheel drive. Its a REAL grin round corners, and feels SO secure.
Thirsty - but fun!
