1995 Ford Escort LX review from UK and Ireland
"Just an 'average' car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
66000 - Front brakes started squeaking. This is probably a seized caliper because the car was sitting for 3 years before I bought it. Yet to get it checked out.
69000 - Switch inside the indicator stalk died. This resulted in most of the lights inside and outside the car not working. Picked up a replacement from a scrap-yard. Took 10 minutes to fix and cost £20.
General comments?
This car is by no means a 'fast' car. It also isn't a 'fun' car. Generally though, its quite a 'nice' car.
Sitting inside is quite pleasent, with an attractive dash, and a fairly nice design of the center console.
Driving it is easy, as the engine is smooth up-to about 4krpm and gear changing feels very accurate. Anything after 4krpm, and the engine is fairly noisy, it does pick up considerably at this point however.
The car drives well, but by no means 'exciting'. Suitable for both motorway runs and the weekly shopping, however it doesn't excel in either.
I've done 3 trips up and down the country since I bought the car, and both myself and my passengers have found the seating to be very comfortable. Both in the front, and rear.
There are many escort around these days, so aslong as you don't pay too much for one, you shouldn't be disapointed.
