1986 GMC Jimmy S-15 review from North America
"A great SUV to have (thumbs up!)"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replace tires every 20,000 miles.
Brakes replaced once front and back (fix myself)
Timing chain and head gasket went out at 162,000 miles, which I think is very well on reliability.
Proportion valve replaced. (fix Myself)
Fuel pump replaced around 130,000 miles.
Very few wear and tear parts, ranging from spark plugs wires to emission parts. (fix myself)
Starter replaced (fix myself)
General comments?
Overall this has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is very sporty,
stylish, carpet is original and is in
85% good condition, paint that is still original is about 65% good, electrical system is 100% good (I have electric windows never had a problem). I do like to mention this vehicle is very easy to work on for the novice mechanic. I have fix most of the problems that have occur. I have over 175,000 miles on my vehicle and still no transmission break-down. Working on these vehicles are very accessible, getting to certian parts is not a terrible task. I like the fact my GMC jimmy has the old type engines, it still has a distributor. These vehicle now days have what you call a non-distributor. I don't want a vehicle with more computers to run it than it takes NASA to send a space shuttle to the moon. My GMC jimmy has only one, that's all I need. I recommend this vehicle for any novice mechanic.
