1993 Peugeot 405 GR review from Uruguay
"Comfortable and a pleasure to drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front suspensions changed at 110.000
Shock absorbers changed twice
Lights in dashboard repaired once
Heating is mild and depends on the engine's temperature
Brake disks changed at 85.000 and 180.000
Engine expired after 130.000 km
Most moving parts have been changed one time or the other.
General comments?
Bought it with gas engine and changed motor after it was gulping too much oil after 4 years of normal use.
Used Peugeot 1.9 diesel engine was installed which proved to be tricky for the rest of the components, particularly the power steering. Diesel rotates at half the RPM so a new pulley, half the size had to be build.
Anyway it's always a pleasure to take it put on the sloped Uruguayan countryside.
Huge trunk! It one of the few sedans that will carry a foursome of golfers with their full equipments! (yeah, It's always me that has to pick the rest of the foursome, thought they have more modern cars).
Though Peugeot has quite a history selling and manufacturing cars in South America (specially Argentina), service is very bad and parts are quite expensive.
