1993 Volvo 480 ES review from UK and Ireland
"Cheap to buy, but unreliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator
Noisy water pump.
General comments?
Not a bad car, but not a good car. It's just OK, that's all you can say really.
It's rattles and squeakes and rusts like mad in the rear arches.
The electrical system is way too advanced for early 90's components and is generally unreliable.
Good levels of equiptment (assuming they work) and very comfortable.
Steering lacks feel, it oversteers and looses traction out of the bends.
Don't buy one of these if your expecting the driver involvement of a proper sports car like I was. It simply fails to deliver.
It's just a normal boring chassis with a wacky body shell.
Quite quick in a straight line.
Very good fuel economy ~35mpg average.
