1993 Mitsubishi Montero RS review from North America
"Wish they still made a 4x4 this basic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
New brake pads, rotors turned at 60000
Burned exhaust valve replaced under warranty
Water pump replaced along with timing belt at 90000 miles
New shock absorbers at 75000 miles.
General comments?
This is the most reliable car I've had in 30 years; a good thing because service from the dealer (now out of business) was useless. An independent shop is handling all the routine maintenance. My driving frequently includes graded, but unpaved forest service and desert roads, as well as winter snow, and the Montero handles excellently. There is enough room for four people and a week's gear. The ride is bouncy running with just the driver, but excellent with a load. ABS has proved its worth a couple of times, but can be a little distracting on gravel. With the 3.0 engine and 5-speed, fuel economy is about 17-18 in city driving and 20-22 on the highway.
