1994 Peugeot 306 S16 review from UK and Ireland
"Dynamically awsome"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Exhaust back box rusted through.
Radiator full of silt needed replacing.
Clutch went at 70000 miles.
Front suspension lower arms bush`s went.
Variatrack induction system spheres went.
Brake load compensator valve went causing total loss of brakes and change of pants.
Valve oil stem seals failed causing white smoke at high revs.
The above problem blocked up the catalytic converter with oil causing it to collapse and need replacement.
72000 mile service at Peugeot dealership including cam-belt cost over £500.
3 clutch cables.
2 accelerator cables
Electric fan relay.
Knock sensor.
Heat sensor.
New rear brake caliper.
Head gasket.
Petrol tank air locks refusing to take more than £10 at a time.
Big end bearing came lose for no obvious reason wrecking the engine.
New engine fitted.
Engine cuts out under hard acceleration every now and again.
Fuel pump relay.
Wiring problem to fuel pump relay.
Mystery drain on battery battery goes flat if car left unused for longer than 3 days.
3 new batterys.
Eats tyres and discs, i drive it reasonably hard, though seems to be twice as bad as my cavalier sri was.
Wiring problem, interior fan runs with ignition off.
Coil packs.
The previous owner could probably double this as the list of parts and labor bills no longer fits int the 306 owners book.
I've probably forgotten or missed some bits out.
General comments?
This car handles like its on rails.
It really does stick to the road like glue.
In standard trim its not devastatingly fast, but will get to 60 in uner 8 seconds and top out at 135mph.
Dynamically this car is awesome.
Dealers are useless, I've had comments like goes well for a 1.6, did you put the s-16 stickers on?.
Whats a s-16?.
They arnt very good at fixing faults.
I do all my own servicing and repairs now including the engine swap.
