1989 Ford Tempo GL review from North America
"Cheap to run, fast, reliable, and very durable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced Thermostat
Automatic seatbelt broke on driver side.
Only routine service done otherwise, such as oil change and coolant change/flush. Grease wheel bearings/sustpension.
General comments?
Almost anyone that doesn't know anything about the Ford Tempo or someone who has gotten ahold of a bad one will completely disagree with what I have to say.
I have to say first this car has had nothing go wrong considering the way I drive it. Every time I drive the car I am accelerated as hard as I can from stops taking it to about 6,000rpm. (i installed a tach on the A-pillar where the screw holds the trim on), taking corners at speeds I shouldn't be, and doing more offroading then the Tempo was probably made for.
Fuel economy shouldn't be a reason to purchase this car since I only get about 20 mpg.
This car is no Mustang when it comes to acceleration or cornering, but it is a good car to learn with. You have to be good to take corners fast with this car and still be on the road. As far as acceleration it will out run most every car in its class.
This car has been through an awful lot and I have to say I will always own a Tempo because this car has done nothing, but amaze me all the time. I have hit deer, Pheasants, raccoons, etc. I have drove through muddy fields, deep snow, down ditches (accidentally). After all of this the car had nothing more than a cracked grille and cracked rear bumper skirt.
I will always own a Tempo!!!
