1999 Mercury Cougar review from North America
"I love the handling of the car and sporty looks"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Sun roof broke 3 months after going out of warranty (only had 17,000 miles at the time. Will cost $864.00 to repair (Sad because it was very seldom opened - maybe 20 times total)
Fuel pump replaced at approximately 42,000.
Shifter replaced three times (this was done under warranty) Last time was the first time I could take the car out of overdrive.
Had to replace the unit which controls the drivers' side window.
Service engine light on constantly.
Must push trunk release twice and pull up on the second attempt to get the lid to open.
General comments?
This is a leased vehicle (my fault) and I'm scared to think what else is going to be wrong with it in the next year and a half.
The dealers are great as long as the car is under warranty!
Even if a car is out of warranty for a couple of months and the mileage is still low I believe they should help with the repair if it is a major expense and something that is probably caused by a defect to begin with (sunroof). (Whatever happened to good customer service).
