1986 Volkswagen GTI review from North America
"Street Legal Go-Kart!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
In my opinion, this vehicle incredibly reliable. I have had no major issues with the GTi/
The only thing I have had go wrong is the in-take fuel pump at around 99,000 which only cost $80 to replace.
General comments?
2200 lbs, 100hp, 107 ft/lbs, 0-60 in ~8.4 seconds.. and best of all it will out handle any new car on the road.
The old saying goes "they don't make them like they used to" and its very true.
The car is so light that tires, brakes, fuel, suspension, etc.. last a lot longer! it takes less power to go fast, hence increased mileage and reliability!
The car does handle like its on RAILS!
Stiff suspension, grippy seats, sway bars, high compresion head, ke-Jetronic fuel injection, and a close ratio tranny from the factory, all make the GTI a true 80's FWD sports car; newer "imports" have nothing on 80's Volkswagens!
