1988 Pontiac 6000 LE review from North America
"The most inexpensive way to get around"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This car has never had any problems with any major mechanical components while I've owned it. I've put in the following parts.
Radiator (due to rust)
Brake Lines (due to rust)
Many valve cover gaskets (tend to leak)
Fuel Pump/Sending Unit.
Front struts, Rear shocks and springs.
Many brake jobs and other maint. items.
Considering I've owned the car for over 200,000 miles, those repairs were all to be expected. In fact I'm suprised by how sturdy this car is!
General comments?
I bought this Pontiac because I liked my brothers 1986 Chevy Celebrity. His was reliable, and the things that did break were easy to fix. The cars are mechanically identical, and they are VERY serviceable (I don't know about V6 models, but the tech 4 is rock solid) Parts are plentiful and cheap, and there isn't a project on this car that a backyard mechanic like myself couldn't tackle. The car could use more power, and the paint peeled off, but this car has proven to be more reliable than my wife's Honda Passport. If you can humble yourself to drive a boxy 80's car, you stand to save yourself a lot of money. I would reccomend one to anyone.
