2001 Ford Taurus SE review from North America
"Lots of room, questionable reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front end knocking from sway bar ends.
More front end knocking from loose bolt.
Rack in rack and pinion steering had to be replaced at 45,000. Thank goodness for the extended warranty.
Mysterious high pitched noise heard from drivers side under car somewhere.
Rear window squeaks very badly when rolled up or down.
Transmission shifts hard at times.
General comments?
I bought this car used and I am wondering if the front suspension problems had to do with a previous owner getting in an accident or "four-wheeling". It seems highly unusual for it to have so many suspension issues at around 40,000 miles.
The SE wagon is huge and I love it. I can fill up 2 carts of groceries at Costco and still have room for more in the car.
I previously owned a 2000 Taurus sedan which was a nightmare. It had an "FFV" or Flexible Fuel Vehicle engine and had a lot of fuel system problems. This one is a regular engine and I am hoping that it will be better.
If you buy a Taurus, make sure you get the longest extended warranty possible, you will need it.
