1999 Chevrolet Blazer LT review from North America

"Never Buy One Of These"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When we first bought the blazer, both my husband and myself were pleased. Then the CD player went bad, so it was replaced, because it was gm certified, then when winter hit, I didn't have any heat. I was on my way to Colorado to visit my sister and it was getting chilly inside so I turned on the heat, and no heat came out of the heater. So once I returned home I took to the dealer, I had decided that I should probably do some research on the heater first though, good thing I did. I took what I found to the dealership and they acid washed it four times, and told me that they were sorry for the problem. The next thing I know my husband is deployed and I'm stuck here with a piece of crap. I noticed it was making a noise when I applied the accelerator and took it in. The dealer said it was the tourque converter, which requires dropping the transmission and would cost me another 1,000.00. Thankfully, one of my husbands soldiers was here and my husband trusted him enough to do such a thing. Anyway, he dropped the transmission and the torque converter was fine, guess what it was... the starter, apparently the starter had gone bad and was sticking in the start position. Next the gasket on the lower part of my transmission started leaking and had to pay to get that fixed. Final straw, I was on way to my sisters again and it overheated on me, never even registered hot. So let it cool off and went on to my sisters house didn't overheat the rest of the way or on my home, so I was thinkinh okay maybe I was just pushing it a bit, but no, I noticed something leaking a couple of weeks later took it in and was told it was the water pump. Don't I wish. I spoke to my husband who not only has to deal with fighting a war, but dealing with because I don't klnow what to do, with the piece of junk. He told me go trade it in. SO I take it to a chevy dealer, they say okay will give you 9,000, I was like I owe 12,000. He said, "by the way I had a feeling that there might be a problem with the engine so I put it on the lift and the intake manifold gasket is leaking. I have three in the shop no for the same problem." I asked him is this a problem resulting from the dex-cool, mind you this is the manager I'm speaking to and he says," In my personal opinion, not that of this dealership, yes I do, I think the dex-cool is eating at everything in it's way." Chevrolet is aware of this problem and needs to recall everything they put that stuff in. So now I am in a fix because we are upside down on the payments and the dealership said they will try to get me into a new vehicle because they feel so bad about the problems, but they aren't willing to pay the thing off so I can get a decent trade. I am just waiting now for my husband to return from fighting a war for over a year and to deal with this mess. Hopeully, though the next mess won't be his 2000 silverado that also has the dex-cool in it, that we bought brand-new. I guess I can only pray.

General comments?

CD Player - went out a week after purchasing, and it had been gm certified?

Heater- Had to have it acid washed four times to get the hearter working. No charger, because I had reasearched the problem.

Starter- went bad, but dealership said it was the torque converter. I almost had to pay 600.00 for this one, the dealership to diagnose, then had to buy the torque converter (thankfully that was returned), then had to buy starter, pay the mechanic (friend) who did the work.

Leaking Seal on Transmission- 250.00.

Over Heated- I think possibly now the thermostat is stuck open because it reads the same temp., no matter what.

Intake Manifold Gasket- 500.00 before it goes internal 3,000.00 if it goes internal.
