What things have gone wrong with the car?
The fuel pump went out at about 140000 miles.
Most recently the encoder motor; or transfer case motor has went out. The encoder motor is a common problem with these vehicles, but don't be suckered into buying the $450 new one the dealer wants you to buy. The people at drivetrain. com can hook you up with a rebuilt one for less than half that and still has the same warranty as the new one from the dealer.
General comments?
This vehicle has good power for a 4000lb SUV.
I think when it comes to a vehicle you must understand if you want it to run great you must maintain it and replace things even before they go bad in some cases. This SUV has had new shocks and transmission lines. It has had the transfer case and differentials refilled with new fluid and gear oil.
The point I'm trying to make here is for every bad one out there there is an excellent one like mine that is at 172000 miles and will most likely go 250000 if I continue to properly maintain it.
If you want to know what you can do to make it last longer just look under your hood and under your vehicle itself and ask two questions. Is it as clean as a new one under the hood? Is it dry as a bone on the oil pan and transmission pan? If not then don't be surprised by these so called breakdowns some of you are having.
