2000 Dodge Intrepid Base review from North America
"Read all the others then consider THIS!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Well read some of the other reviews for problems mine is about the same other than door locks & windows failing mine still work. I bought mine new & here are a few tips I have for you to think about.
#1- The engines are probably going bad because you have to run the engine at least around 3700RPM or more to get ANY kind of power out of the 2.7L engine so they probably been, or has been before them Hot Rodded all over town. Amazingly the transmissions seem to make it quite aways under this stress.
#2- The hydraulic timing belt tensioner is a problem period. You must change your oil every 3000 Mi. & don't use Fram or Mopar oil filters they're made by the same company & are extremely poor in quality. Dirty oil really speeds up the process of the belt tensioner & engine failures.
#3- My car is garage kept & well maintained & STILL there's problems with body moldings and weather seals in the doors, plus the interior seems to be falling apart, the rattles & squeaks get worse by the mile.
#4- Keep in mind if you by a used vehicle you have NO idea how it was treated before you. OH yea CarFax huh! Only if it was turned into a insurance Co. that is one they work with. (worthless crap)
#5- In my 52 years of life I've found ALL makers of automobiles have a poor value vehicle here & there, but this is my last with Chrysler. It seems everything they make even trucks is just flat out POOR quality.
General comments?
Looks good, real good, lots of room & very comfortable, my windows & locks still work, trunk is huge, & handles great.
OH however though, the quality of this "THING" is low, real low. Expect plenty of problems that will be more than you can afford. All the maintenance & care in the world can't stop the low productivity cost of this car from screwing you.
