1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS review from North America

"A perfect car for a young kid who wants to show off"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Gas tank had a leak.

Front and rear bumper have some minor damage from fender benders.

Valve on 7th cylinder got stuck at 145000 miles.

Speedometer varies at high speeds.

Exhaust needed to be replaced.

Rear end and transmission replaced at 146000 miles.

Radiator and water pump needed to be replaced.

A lot of sets of rear tires (must be faulty tires)

All new suspension needed at 145000 miles.

Other than that a good reliable car.

General comments?

For being my first car this car is perfect. It has enough power to sit in one spot and burn off a set of rear tires. As for speed and acceleration I have been clocked at up wards of 134 mph and I can do 0-60 in just under 6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 16.14452 seconds. This car is very comfortable in the interior and has enough room to sit 6 of my friends are comfortable, and thanks to the t-tops is very fun to drive in the summer with my Cd's blaring from the fairly decent stock stereo system. The car has a nice rumble sound to it at idle and low RPM due to the V-8 and it screams all the way up to a 4700 RPM red line which isn't bad for a V-8. With the new crank that I have installed the car is putting out 220 hp to the flywheel and about 175 to the rear end. This car is perfect all around for a first car, it is tough and it can outrun most of your friend cars the only let down is the low 12mpg which is not easy to afford on a 17 year olds budget. And to top it all off there is no substitute for an American built car with a V-8.
