1988 Renault Savanna GTS review from UK and Ireland

Heater matrix changed free of charge by Renault. I couldn't do it.

Heater which is not working. Also difficult to change. Very cold car in winter.

Passenger door lock not safe. Sometimes does not lock properly. Sometimes it does.

Front light's relay, made by Lucas, kept

burning. Therefore no low beams, electric garage unable to trace fault. They overpassed it. It has been OKish for some years.

Overheating, consumption of coolant at the moment under control (air lock I think).

Fan thermostat switch had to be changed as a suspect (£35.00 from Renault, £2.00 from a specialist scrap yard).

And the carburettor is giving all sorts of poisonous emissions, difficult to control. I do not know why. I never touch it. SOLEX

Windscreen wipers' link broken. Fixed by Simon, my builder friend.

And then more overheating.

Apart from all these funny incidents, the car is still running. Only once let my wife down on a trip to Oxford but it was my fault. The rest of our long trips have been OK. Birmingham Bournmouth, far away in Wales, etc.

I bought this car from a PE teacher who paid £9,000 new. I paid £3,500. My daughter Geraldine was only about 10 months old. Today she is 7.3.

It has been good with the little ones, and usually there is room for one more friend too and luggage in the boot or on the roof, no problem. The roof rack has been very useful. Now is getting a little bit rusty but still not bad for its age - 12 years in the Midlands.
