1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP review from North America
"I love it, will love it more when I can drive it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Three days before I bought the car I test drove it for about 5 hours. I fell in Love. I took the car to my dealer to check over. Results were not bad. Wheel bearing was bad, heater fan noise and a small oil leak.
Took car back to selling dealer told him what was wrong and bargained a price. But, part of the deal was that they would fix oil leak.
Manifold gasket needed replaced.
Went back a couple of days later and bought the car. I was excited! I drove off the lot, up the road about 5 kms to where I work and noticed the car had no power. I opened the hood and right away could smell antifreeze. I reved the engine and it sounded as if there was little to no oil in it. I pulled out the dip stick and to my surprise there was twice as much oil then what there should have been. It did not even look or feel like oil, but more like power steering fluid. I call the dealer and told them to get a tow truck to come and pick it up.
Got to the dealer and they said sometimes things happen and would be at least a day before they could look at it.
Got a call from dealer saying due to an error on their part they are rebuilding the motor and won't have it back for at least a week. They gave me another car to drive.
I call the next day to find out how things were going and they said they took the car to a GM dealer so I asked which one and they replied they were fixing the motor, but with the help of GM computers for the engine codes. This made me very nerves, to thing the same people how caused this to happen in the first place are working on it again.
The dealership will not tell me what happened or what all there are fixing. They told me not to worry about it and to stop asking. It will be fixed.
Engine rebuilt at 110.205km due to dealership screw up!
Love the car, unhappy with dealer.
General comments?
This car is fun to drive.
People stare where ever you go and I love it.
Will set you back in your seat when you punch the gas.
I love this and my other Grand Prix GTP.
