2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 review from North America
"You get what you pay for Z24"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Over all the car has been OK. But, two manufacturing defects that seem inexcusable are a clunking in the front end when turning the steering wheel, and an improperly sealed windshield that makes for lots of wind noise. I believe the car has not been in an accident and the windshield is a factory defect... even though GM will never acknowledge that! Good thing the stereo is reasonably loud, cause you might not hear a lower powered radio at highway speeds. Also one speed of the heater fan does not work. Overall it's a decent car, but I don't think a car of this age would show these problems if it were an import.
A friend also owns a plain 2000 Cavalier with an annoying dash rattle which appears at 1200 rpm. 7 trips to the dealer have failed to correct the problem, including a new motor mount, exhaust hangers and partial dash disassembly.
General comments?
These cars depreciate quickly... with good reason. They perform great when fairly new, but fall apart prematurely. Overall a decent buy for the money, but I think I'll choose something else next time. I'm afraid to own this car for the long haul.
