1990 Mazda B2200 pickup 2wd review from North America

The cylinder head developed a tiny crack, the entire unit was replaced.

Air/fuel solenoid failed at 181,900 kilometers, along with the catalytic converter, both were replaced with new units.

Timing belt and fuel pump/rubber fuel lines were replaced (pre cautionary maintenance).

Stock clutch finally wore out at 175,000 kilometers.

I upgraded the air filter to a K/N washable performance filter. oil filter was changed to a dual filter unit, with 2 K/N oil filters.

Installed a Aurora Electronics (Canadian made locally) drag race coil and 10mm stainless steel core plug wires. (stock coil output = 15,000 volts, Aurora coil output 95,000 volts (cannot measure the amperage at the plug (gauge won't go any higher than 400 amps). Accel copper core non resistor spark plugs gapped at.060"

high flow converter and glasspack exhaust, swept out the side of the truck .

I have run the truck with Redline 10W40 synthetic oil since the 3500 km mark, along with Redline synthetic manual transmission oil, Redline synthetic rear differential oil.

Replaced the stock battery cables with 0/1 gauge heavy duty welding cable and a dual battery setup (2 Optima redtop batteries), upgraded the 55 amp stock alt to a Bosch 65 amp unit.

Replaced the stock 2 core rad with a 3 core B2600 4x4 radiator, also new heater /rad hoses.

once all the mods were done i had the truck tested on the dyno. stock horsepower and torque was 85 HP and 115 LBS of torque. after the mods were done, the truck tested out at: 140 HP and 235 LBS of torque.

at time of this article, the truck has 182,000 kilometers on the original engine. cylinder compression is still at stock levels +/- 2 per cylinder.

I plan to convert the rear of the truck to a flat deck, with a job box bolted to the deck and a rear facing winch carrier.
