1993 Volkswagen Passat CL Wagon review from Austria
"OK, but even grandma is faster... without a car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car has been going strong since day one, only at around 80,000 KMs did it start whining.
Replaced factory stereo.
Engine became noiser at around 110,000 Kms.
A noticable loss in Horsepower at 185,000 KMs.
At 200,0000 KMs you could feel the gears through your hand when shifting gears. Clutch was starting to wear.
210,000 KMs the exhaust started producing lots of white smoke, apparantley the engine is running rough.
225,000 KMs Car is becoming slower and slower and slower. You'd need to shift to 2nd gear for a hill climb. And for cruising..haha... you could glue your foot to the pedal while making yourself a cup of coffee and by the time you drink it the spedometer would finally show you reached 60km/h. Seriously slow.
240,000 KMs Serviced damaged clutch disc+engine.
General comments?
This car is quite reliable and accepts rough driving.
It handles pretty well although there is some understeer.
After 245,000 KMs of pain its still didn't' hit the grave.
It might take lots of time to reach 100km/h, but it certainly does well after that.
After 10 year and surviving I classify it as a tough nut to crack.
