2002 GMC Sierra 1500 HD review from North America
"Handsome, but problematic"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front diff output shaft seal replaced 5 times. Heater control replaced 2 times. Steering shaft replaced 1 time. Hood rattle dealer could not find; blamed it on my remote start installation. I found hood hitting fender. Rattle under dash, dealer blamed remote starter again. I found a piece of metal that was later identified by the dealer as a shift cable retainer had fallen on top of the body control module causing rattle. Fuel pump replaced 1 time. Power window switch replaced 1 time. Rattle in driver door never been identified by dealer, I'll undoubtedly fix or find that one too. Tranny slips from drive at stop lights, "That's normal". Knocking sound from engine, "That's normal". The Detroit Press says its piston slap. GM customer service agents say gobbeldy gook, but we'll give you a new motor if you promise not to tell anyone else.
General comments?
Styling and creature comforts are well thought out and attractive. The truck is quiet and powerful and drives very well on rough and smooth surfaces. The problem lies in the execution of quality manufacturing whether that be from them or their vendors.
