1998 Ford Escort Si estate review from UK and Ireland
"A high powered grocery getter"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Whilst the car is still fairly new (to me!),nothing has gone wrong with the car except for wear and tear items. Since purchased, I have had to replace all 4
tires, (the front 2 were the originals and the rears were part worn when bought). Servicing can be expensive due to the car using platinum spark plugs.
General comments?
This car is frighteningly quick, but the engine does sound a bit harsh under heavy acceleration. Interior is a bit bland with lots of Grey
plastic everywhere, but having the white dials on the dashboard gives the car a sporty feel to it. A tip to other Escort owners:check the inner lip of both rear wheel arches. This is an area that tends to get overlooked when cleaning and when trapped mud stays wet it causes your arches to rot from the inside out. Do it with your fingertips (don`t use scrapers or screwdrivers;you will scratch the metal and do more harm!) and it will keep them looking better for longer.
