2004 Lancia Ypsilon Platino review from Greece
"Avoid at all costs - Better go Japanese"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Door stop hinge broken at 1700 kilometers.
Sunroof sun-visor broken from new.
Rear seat not properly placed from new.
Clutch not disconnecting engine from transmission completely from new.
Thermometer of outside temperature reading false from new.
Squeaks and rattles from first 1500 kilometers.
Plastic cover below glove compartment fell off at first 500 kilometers.
Squeaks when cornering from new (reason: a part of the brake system touched the front brake disk!)
General comments?
My new Lancia Ypsilon is very stylish, has a great Bose stereo, a very practical trip computer and handles wonderfully... that's about it with the positive remarks.
I have owned the car since 11 March 2004 and I am very disappointed with its reliability, considering the car is brand new and is the most expensive car of its category, having every available extra as well.
This car is heavy and not so agile as expected by its 95 hp engine.
Its consumption is fairly average for such a small car (driven normally: 10 liters urban, 8 liters highway).
The pretty seats of full tan hide offer no support whatsoever when cornering.
Worst of all, the dealer is very rude and unhelpful. The car stayed at the workshop for 8 days and practically nothing of the above was rectified.
Unfortunately Lancia, a marque of great heritage has no chance of surviving if it continues producing cars like this.
I have had a Lancia Thema in the past and it was wonderful. Too bad the company didn't keep it up.
