1998 Daihatsu Grand Move review from UK and Ireland

"Marvelous small utility car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Interior lights would switch on when the vehicle turned right at any reasonable speed. The problem sorted, under the warranty, by the dealer in 30 minutes.

General comments?

Not exactly an attractive car either inside or out, but it must pass as the best small utility car on the planet.

Daihatsu must have employed Dr Who's Tardis designers - the internal space is massive. Four large adults no problem; flatten the back seats and you've got a van; flatten all the seats and you have a double bed.

Sound proofing could be improved as road and wind noise are both intrusive above 50 mph, but, in fairness, the car is used mostly in urban driving.

Particularly annoying is, that whilst the Grand Move offers twin airbags, ABS and electric everything, the dashboard switches are not back illuminated. One has to feel one's way around at night!

My only other criticism is the Panasonic radio/cassette. Boy is it complicated. Too many, too small buttons. Suffice to say that the handbook for the radio has at least twice as many pages as the handbook for the car.
