1997 Isuzu Rodeo S/Prefered package review from North America
"A very high reliability unit; far exceeds others"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Updating from a previous entry titled "A very reliable truck"
100,000 New front/rear brakes (replaced cheapo's)
115,000 New tires (Bridgestone Revo's)
121,000 New battery (old 1 lasted 5+ yrs)
121,200 New Alternator (was expecting it for over a year though)
General comments?
Can't believe the reliability I've had with this truck; I do baby it however, and it is VERY HIGHLY maintained.
Every 3K = oil/filter (w/o question)
Every 5K = Rotate tires.
Every 7-10K = Air filter.
Every 25K = Repack bearings, tranny flush.
Every 12 mnths Radiator flush, fuel filter, spark plugs (if needed), belts, hoses, whatever is of question.
60K = Timing belt, water pump.
At 118,000K = 1st fluid flush on rear axle.
Never had to change thermostat, but am definitely going to do it before summer.
This truck, in the 121,200 of now, has gone through -
2 batteries,
2 alternators,
now 3rd set of tires,
1 powersteering pump,
1 valve cover gasket (on each side)
2 sets of radiator hoses
2 sets of 3 different driving belts
1 fuel pump sensor
2 sets of brakes.
Granted, the above items were "in need" of replacement, not considered part of just "routine" maintenance.
However, regardless of the above items going out sometimes at the worst time (financially) this truck NEVER left me stranded. And has never needed a tow truck.
My 2nd battery, didn't actually die, but rather was bloated and leaking acid - but I knew the time was near.
My 2nd alternator IS in fact dead, dying probably before battery was even replaced. I had already left the Walmart location when my low charge light returned (after new battery) and volts dropped really low - but truck still ran.
When I got home & was able to test the Alternator, found out it was a dead unit. NOTE: I drove roughly 30-35 miles to get home w/o a problem.
Again, it was another item that had been making noise for over a year, I suspected it's arrival.
The motto of past "Go Farther" is surely the truth; as this truck has gone and been down more roads then most cars/trucks will ever see.
Aside from being my daily commuter, this truck goes on 300+ mile trips A LOT, between camping, boating, sightseeing, you name it, she hauls it.
Most everything performance wise is stock, with upgrades in tire size, custom push bar, class 3 tow package.
Only complaint - NO CUPHOLDERS.
In short, I can't say enough about this truck. Especially when I look at family members driving other vehicles with less mileage having tranny and engine problems.
