1990 Honda Accord LX review from North America
"Excellent first time buy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Drivers side Lower ball joint recently came out while driving. Luckily going slow in parking lot. Does this ever happen while traveling at high speeds? Replaced driver side CV Joints for $160 (parts). Expect to replace passenger CV Joints soon.
Alternator started dying while I was driving back from camping. I was able to make it home under battery power, just barely. Replaced alternator, and eventually battery. I am running 2 amps for Sub and speakers, so this wasn't Honda's fault.
Was rear ended by full size van traveling at 60 Km/h, while I was stopped. There is suprisingly little damage to the vehicle probably due to the fact that he hit me where the frame connects to the rear bumper. Still able to close the trunk!
Rust issues around back of rear wheel wells.
General comments?
This is the most reliable car I have ever owned, and fun to drive too. It really was built like a tank. I expect to keep driving it well into the 300k's.
I knew the complete history of the car when I bought it (well serviced at the same dealership it's whole life), so this is likely why she is still running in mint condition, engine wise.
Only maintenance I do is lube every 5000-10000 k's. Doesn't burn any oil.
Excellent reliable first car if history is known. I'd recommend for sure.
