1999 Isuzu Rodeo LS review from North America
"Started out good, but going downhill fast"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At 55,000 miles the gas sensor quit working.
At 65,000 miles the crank sensor had to be replaced.
At 75,000 miles began consuming excess oil.
Plus 3 recalls for things I do not remember at this time.
General comments?
For the first 4 years and 55k miles I loved my '99 Rodeo LS and didn't have a bit of trouble with it. It handled well, had good pickup, lots of cargo room... everything I had hoped for.
Then the problems began. The gas sensor quit working and it will be approx $400 for the repair, so for the last 1.5 yrs I have been relying on my trip tachometer to tell me when I need to refuel.
Then the crank sensor went out and had to be replaced. It took the dealership garage 3 days to figure out the problem!
Finally, like I have seen from so many other owners, it began consuming excess oil. Unfortunately, I did not realize until it was too late that the oil was bone dry (and just 5K miles since the last oil change, even though the owners manual states to have oil changes every 7500 miles.) I am currently shopping for a new engine, since I disintegrated the cam shaft from low oil.
This is the 3rd Isuzu I have owned and the only make auto I have driven since 1987 but I can now say that it will be my last due to the decrease in quality of the vehicle and the lack of responsiveness from the company.
