1993 Dodge Dakota le extend cab review from North America
"Very strong engine, very roomy cab, long lasting"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I replaced the serpentine belt, the fuel filter twice, in tank fuel pump in the winter with a full tank of gas at the time, all stock shocks with rancho off road rs5000, ignition switch, my first set of tires all blew in the same week after a month or so then I replaced all those tires with a set of Mastercraft gt tires, transmission, radiator twice actually I bought the part from Autozone and took it back a year later with the receipt for a new one, temp. switch, temp. sensor, water pump twice, brake calipers front, brake pads front, rear brake drums, rear brake cylinders, the bed tried to rust close to the cab so I sealed it with rubber silicone, sanded it, and rhino lined it, wipers, front headlight bulbs both, rear turn signals and brake bulbs, license plate lights both, added fog lights, great a/c for never being recharged, tranny filter, driver window electric switch started messing up occasionally before it was sold, all rear gas lines because they rusted and man what a nasty smell and scare to drive with a gas leak, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires one had melted and was sparking to the manifold, engine looks like a baby v8 same specs as a v8 just has 2 cylinders less, I love the Holley EFI., electrical problems, and paint problems due to parking under a tree bird poop rusted through the paint which then caused a lot of flaking.
General comments?
With the correct adjustments and attention to detail this 2wd. truck is perfect for spring summer and fall. Staying with the same year a 93 v6 ex. cab 4x4 would have been all I needed. A v8 4x4 ex. cab with long distance driving would have been too much in fuel, but would have been worth it as a second driver in the winter instead of a loose 2wd.
