1996 Nissan Primera SRi review from UK and Ireland

"Best value buy around"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing whatsoever to date. But it is early, with only 28,000 genuine miles up on her - I bought her recently for 1500 euro. Best value car I have ever bought. Was going to buy a 98 mondeo estate glx 2.0i automatic instead, but changed my mind at the last minute. Glad I did cos the nissan was 3,500 euro cheaper than the mondeo and I can sell it for much the same money next year, whereas the mondeo would have lost 2,000 in depreiciation over the same period.

General comments?

Handling is superb. Nothing I've driven over the years felt as confident on meandering roads.

The steering wheel is very large, feels a little weighted and heavy, yet precise. Turning circle is a nightmare however - huge.

Rear passenger legroom isn't impressive at all. However my main concern was bootspace{as a musician on the road), and she met my requirements hands down on this count with a terrfic, spacious, secure boot. Keeps my guitar, mixer, speakers, speakers stands and much more safely in the boot {out of sight of robbers}. Mine doesn't have an alarm - which bothers me because joyriders like this car in ireland.

Crap sound system throughout is very disheartening. Speakers sound like cheap desktop speakers, no tone, mid, bass or compression worth talking about - nissan definately cut corners on this one. This is my only true gripe with this car to date.

Acceleration can be pretty dull at low revs, but get her to 3,500rpm or so and she begins to wake up. Acceleration from around 40mph {3rd gear} to about 100mph {4th}makes you realize this is a serious car, which has earned my respect for one.
