1990 Plymouth Voyager Base review from North America

"The most reliable, comfortable minivan ever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No major repairs whatsoever until late 2003 when the factory radiator blew out. I replaced it myself quickly, easily, and cheaply.

The air conditioning died in 2001, but it only needs a recharge and I've been too cheap to invest the money in it.

Currently, it smokes a tiny bit, and burns about one quart of oil per 5,000 miles, not bad considering it's a thirteen year old minivan.

It is beginning to rust through in several areas which is a problem. However it's not unexpected since this van has spent ten years outside in Michigan winters, no garage. Body repairs are difficult due to it's unit-body construction.

General comments?

I seriously love this van. My parents purchased it new, then gave it to me because it had such a low resale value when they purchased a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The low resale value was mostly due to the manual transmission which I love, and most people don't.

From what I hear of the longevity of this motor and transmission set up, I eagerly look forward to the next thirteen years with this van.

The front passenger area is the best I've seen in any minivan before or since, terribly comfortable. The back seat area is not so nice however. Very utilitarian, but it does the job.

It handles well, and drives nicely. The manual transmission gives it some much needed extra pep, great for quick passing on the highway.
