1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX review from North America

Nothing has gone wrong with the car per se.

The exterior seems to be cursed.

We had the car for 6 days before it was side swiped.

Once, a deer jumped over the car and clipped one of the retractable headlights.

The hydraulic system that holds the trunk open went out a while back, but we had it fixed.

We had the A/C re-charged in 2000, but it stopped working just one year later.

We stopped driving it regularly around 1995, and mileage has decreased sharply ever since- we want to save this great car!

That being said, the shifter became gummy and we took it in, hoping it wouldn't cost much. Sure enough, $70 and a cleaning later, it was good as new!

Other than that, it has been trouble free.

We have always bought Toyotas, but we took a chance on the Mitsu as it provided comparable performance to a Supra at 3/4 the price. We are NOT disappointed.

This car is quick and nimble.

Put the pedal down and it roars! You'll be thrown back in your seat.

This car is everything that Mustangs and Camaros are supposed to be: affordable, reliable, muscular and FUN. In the last 30 years, the American automakers have made cars that have some, but never all, of these attributes.

Be good to your Eclipse, and it will be good to you: let the turbo cool down before shutting off, change the oil every 3K miles, don't take it out in bad weather, do the 60K maintenance, have the transmission looked at around 80K.
