1993 Chevrolet Caprice Classic (9C1) review from North America
"Eats a LOT of Road"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had to replace radiator due to insufficient amount of antifreeze while in police service - slow leak apparently only replaced with water
Replaced water pump - twice - on par for a Gen I or II GM V8
Needed a new differential carrier - spun bearing
Fuel pump failed at 162,000 miles after letting it run out of gas.
General comments?
This is a very fast and reliable car. It has far exceeded my expectations. It is a former North Carolina Highway Patrol vehicle with the Police Package (9C1) including the high output 5.7l V8. It handles remarkably well for a 4000 lbs. car, although it is harsh over bumps. It's great fun to blow away Mustangs and other performance vehicles at stop lights.
It is starting to show wear and is beginning to leak oil, about 1 qt. per 3000 miles.
I get about 16 miles per gallon (US) around town and about 21 miles per gallon on the highway. I wish it got better gas mileage, but considering the low repair cost, if figure I'm coming out ahead.
