1983 Oldsmobile 98 Regency review from North America
"Best Car I've Ever Owned"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced transmission @ 80k.
Repainted twice in 10 years.
Replaced starter, alternator, water pump.
Minor electrical problems.
Replaced timing chain when the car mysteriously died on the Garden State parkway.
Recharged A/C.
Spring-assisted shocks in front & rear to reduce sagging suspension.
Routine maintenance and upkeep helped keep this car running great.
Only major concern: started to burn oil @ 190k miles & there was blow-by in the crankcase. Mechanic told me it needed piston rings, so I got rid of the car.
General comments?
The 98 rides like a sofa on wheels!
It is so quiet and comfortable. Big back seat too ;-)
Since the car was from Texas, not 1 spot of rust existed.
It handled nicely for a big car.
For 10 years, I loaded this car with hundreds of pounds of band equipment. It proved reliable as the sun.
I gave this car TLC and it treated me well for 10 years, thank you very much! I cried to see it go.
